Oh c’mon! I want to learn every language of every country I go to, but you can’t learn every phrase you might need if you’re going to several countries. When people are gleefully ignorant and arrogantly expect everyone to speak perfect English for them, and never learn any of the local language, yes, that is rude, unrealistic, & unfair. But expecting American tourists and visitors to speak the other language well? Also rude, unrealistic, & unfair. Esp. if a car breaks down- that’s an emergency.
